A Path of Care Hospice of Norman, OK is looking to hire a part-time Hospice Patient Care Volunteer to work as an extension of hospice personnel to provide caregiving and support services for our patients and their families. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HOSPICE PATIENT CARE VOLUNTEER

As a Hospice Patient Care Volunteer, you enable our patients to live independently by offering support, encouragement, and help to both them and their families. You receive in-home care assignments that match your interests to the patient's and their family's needs as closely as possible. Always eager to help, you provide a variety of caregiving and support services, including running errands like grocery shopping or driving them to appointments and doing occasional light housekeeping and laundry. You form genuine connections with patients as you offer them companionship by sitting with them at their bedsides, helping them write letters, and carrying out their care plans.

You also make sure that their homes are safe environments, reducing the likelihood of accidents and promoting a timely response to illness. You are meticulous about reporting any changes or concerns promptly. In this way, you provide real peace of mind for them and their families. Studies have shown that those who live at home and retain their independence are happier, healthier, and tend to live longer, and you feel great about facilitating this for our patients through the part you play in our excellent in-home care services!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A HOSPICE PATIENT CARE VOLUNTEER

  • Willingness to complete the hospice training program and orientation.
  • Has not experienced close personal loss through death within the last year.
  • Physical capacity to bend, stoop, climb stairs, lift, and carry 40 pounds.

Can you adapt to changing circumstances? Do you have respect for and patience with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people? Are you discreet, and honest? Do you have both empathy and a clear understanding of appropriate professional boundaries? Are you reliable, punctual, organized, and able to prioritize tasks effectively?
